Chenin Blanc 2019
Green apple, Geraldton wax flower, nashi pear, summer apricots, white currant, jasmine tea and white pepper. On the palate this is concentrated and energetic with layers upon layers of ripe orchard fruit (think white nectarines, pears and apples) shaped by fine, chalky phenolics (aka tannins), all of it laced together with a seam of brine-y acidity that courses through the long finish.
The 2019 vintage was a cool one and was responsible for wines of aromatic precision and delicacy. Our biodynamic vineyard is naturally fortified to deal with climatic variation, due to its balance via organic management, which in this case has resulted in a wine with brilliant flavour concentration and textural sophistication.
Drink it now or drink it in a decade (or more) – chenin ages gracefully over time, and this has all the components required for a long future ahead.
95 Points - The WA Wine Guide 2022 - Ray Jordan
"This excellent chenin blanc comes from a biodynamic vineyard. It's had 10 months in oak yet it doesn't taste at all oaky, such is the power of the fruit and the balance. It's a delicate wine yet there is a lot happening with the mix of passionfruit and melon with a dab of citrus over the tropical fruit salad underlay. Great now, but will handle some cellaring. In some ways a slightly friendlier version than the excellent 2018."
95 Points - The Real Review - Huon Hooke
"Light straw-yellow colour, with a strong nutty and spicy bouquet, evidently largely oak-derived, the palate rich and toasty-nutty, with savoury flavours rather than sweet fruit. Mixed spices and what appears to be a balsamic, wild ferment character. More time should integrate the oak even better. Complex and highly appealing, with a finish that's penetrating, warm and very long. An impressive wine." Huon Hooke
