Chenin Blanc Flying High

Marri Wood Park’s 2022 Chenin Blanc is another notch on the belt of the unassuming biodynamic winery; a pure and evoking illustration of the vintage, the site and the variety.

Julian is a dedicated biodynamic farmer. His only intervention is to prune the vines, and even that is minimal. There is no watering, no fertilising, no soil balancing at the Yallingup vineyard. A glass of Marri Wood Park wine is an incredibly pure expression of the world renowned Margaret River Wine Region.

Julian says: “The 2022 vintage was a good year, with no real bird damage due to presence of Marri Wood blossom. The heavy winter rains in the South West meant that it was a late vintage. But, a lack of wetter periods through spring created exceptional ripening conditions up to vintage."

The 2022 Chenin Blanc was hand-picked and whole bunch pressed to tank. Following ferment the wine was transferred into ageing vessels; a portion going into large format oak barrels, and the rest spending time in a clay amphora. Both portions were then reunited prior to bottling.

The result? A refined and revealing Chenin Blanc with great cellaring potential that has attracted some great reviews.

Emma Farrelly, from The Wine Pilot has said:

"From a biodynamic vineyard in Yallingup, there is a gorgeous lift of warm lemon skin, nashi pear and sweet white florals. Incredibly juicy and bright, with expansive drive and length. The acid is poised yet gentle with a lick of oak offering texture and weight. Mouthwateringly delicious, I love this wine." 95 points.

Jeni Port, also from The Wine Pilot comments:

Chenin Blanc is having a moment and Margaret River is ready. The region’s strong points can be seen and enjoyed here. Fully ripened fruit brings forth lifted aromatics – honeysuckle, acacia, citrus blossom – which run the length and breadth of the wine, together with citrus, baked apple, spice and almond meal. Just a splash of botanicals – a smidgeon – together with a peppery twist is a brilliant added touch. Everything is in balance, including the lovely, lemony bright acidity to close. A textural lovely that puts a spotlight on Chenin Blanc.” 95 points.
