Family run. Hand picked. Biodynamic.
No chemicals. No pesticides. No fertiliser. No irrigation.
Marri Wood Park is a boutique family run and owned, Demeter certified biodynamic vineyard. Established 1992 in Yallingup, Western Australia, located on Caves Road, a stone throw from Smiths Beach.
Our biodynamic philosophy utilises sustainable, chemical free practices. Applying the timing and movement of celestial objects to predicate pruning, live animal fertilising, and picking; complementing our natural and introduced bio-diversity as an ecologically beneficial approach to farming.
Sixteen acres and ten-thousand vines comprising cabernet sauvignon, sauvignon blanc, chenin blanc, semillon and a terroir of sandy gravelly loam on limestone bedrock. No irrigation; made possible by the dewy, cooling breeze which rolls off the Southern Indian Ocean in conjunction with gentle north facing slopes, undulating topography and well-established roots of our 28-year-old vines.
The result is hardy vines that produce high quality, robust and delicious grapes. The berries are hand-picked and sorted and then fermented in an array of fermenters (including clay amphoras, French and Austrian oak barrels) to produce the highest quality wine exemplifying the Margaret River region’s fine viticultural qualities.
5 Star Google Review
"We popped in and had a fantastic experience with Helen guiding us through the vineyards process and the wines they produced. She was a crack up and so very welcoming. You can see the love and passion here. We loved meeting the family, trying some honey and of course the dogs. Customer service was phenomenal and the product was great - special mention to the sparkling chenin." G. Cooke
AWARD-WINNING CHENIN BLANC
The intention for our estate Chenin Blanc is to work with the naturally high acid and distinctive flavour profile endemic to the Chenin Blanc grape and amplify that via the use of French oak vessels. The 2021 vintage saw 10 months maturation prior to release in April 2022.View
Sparkling Chenin Blanc
The fruit is hand-picked early to ensure requisite acidity for sparkling, primary fermentation is carried out in tank. It is then left to rest on its lees for 60 months, after which time is it disgorged and bottled for release. This wine is kept back intentionally to show the effects of extended time on lees and showcases the incredible ageing potential of chenin blanc as historically crafted in the Loire Valley of France. Recently our 2018 vintage was awarded a Trophy at the Australian Chenin Blanc Challenge Wine Awards.View
French and Austrian large format oak vessels with a combination of Amphora crafts a new style of of winemaking than you expect from our historic sauvignon blanc style. A combination of stone fruits, chalky green apple define the experience, the graphite and flint, leaves a tingly trail in its wake. It’s slippery and it’s restrained, a very pretty expression of sauvignon blanc. "...A profoundly good wine and a model for a new generation of texturally complex sauvignon blancs." Paul EdwardsView
The fruit is picked from a biodynamically farmed single block on the family property, and is fermented in a combination of clay amphora, and French oak barrels with a portion left on its skins for a year. 20% new French oak and 30% Amphora. Raspberry, strawberry, blackberry and light herb on the nose, all of it punctuated with restrained clove. Plush and mouth filling, with silky chalky tannins that shape the wine as it courses over the tongue. As the wine fades through the finish, it reveals a sprinkling of pepper.View
